La Peri tea cup and saucer (Bakst Dance Series)
This dramatic, exotic design reproduces Léon Bakst's original costume for the "dance poem" La Péri, composed in 1911 by Paul Dukas (famed for his The Sorcerer's Apprentice). In the ballet, the Peri – a fairy-like spirit from Persian mythology – holds the Flower of Immortality, the object of the main character's quest. In this tea set of finest porcelain, the elegant square saucer is adorned with the dancing Peri, whose bright, flowing costume is echoed on the tapered cup.
