WHAT IS CBD TEA?
CBD is having a bit of a moment. It seems like every day, there’s a slew of influencers sharing about their favorite CBD tinctures and creams, shops are popping up everywhere, and you may have even encountered CBD as a recommended add-on in your local coffee shop or health store – we know we have.
One popular way to enjoy CBD is as a CBD tea. And, you know us, we’re all about that tea life. So, we wanted to dive into what exactly is CBD tea? Why you might want to incorporate it into your routine, how to do so to optimize its benefits, and more.
First and foremost, no, it will not get you high. CBD has little to no THC in it, so there are zero psychoactive effects. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s chat about what it is. CBD is cannabidiol, a natural extract from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. It’s been used for thousands of years to manage a number of health conditions – something we’ll dive into in more detail shortly.
Meanwhile, CBD tea is precisely what it sounds like – tea with CBD infused in it. Plus, CBD is hydrophobic – meaning it does not mix with water. That means much of the CBD and its benefits don’t actually get into your body when using these pre-blended CBD tea bags.

HOW MANY DROPS OF CBD OIL IN TEA?
The dosing, or the number of drops used, will depend on a number of factors and vary for everyone. For those trying CBD for the first time, the typical recommended dose is between 20 and 40 mg per day. That said, research indicates much higher doses are well tolerated. That said, many users start small – typically, one to five milligrams and then pay attention to how their body reacts and adjust their dosage as needed over time.
Since we’re no CBD experts, we’ll steer clear of recommending how many drops of CBD oil in your tea, and we encourage you to choose a high-quality CBD oil and to do your research.
As for how to use CBD tea – we’ve got you covered there. Just like “plain” tea, it can be enjoyed at any time of day. Morning, noon, or night – it’s up to you. When and how often you choose to include CBD tea in your routine will depend on your needs and what you’re seeking to achieve by drinking it.
Something to consider when drinking your CBD tea. Whether you’ve eaten recently or not may affect how soon the CBD will be absorbed in the bloodstream, but not the effectiveness of the CBD. On average, it takes 30-90 minutes to take effect, with a duration of up to 7 hours. Again, these times vary by person, dose, and particular CBD oil used.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to CBD tea. Truly, all you have to do is brew your favorite tea to your liking and stir in some CBD oil. And poof! You’ve got CBD tea! However, we’ve done some of our research and have a few go-to concoctions we think you’ll love. Each recipe yields one serving.
CBD INFUSED LEMON GINGER TURMERIC TEA
If you’re ready to unwind for the day, we highly recommend sipping on a mug of CBD Infused Chocolate Ginger Tumeric Rooibos Tea. Bonus? - 1 ½ tsp Chocolate Ginger Tumeric Rooibos tea
- 1 cup water
- CBD oil (dosage varies by person)
- Sweetener or milk of choice, as desired
- Boil water to 208°F
- Pour water and CBD oil into a mug
- Steep tea in the infuser of your choice for 5-7 minutes
- Add sweetener or milk, if you’d like… enjoy!
